Kijani Resilience Selected as Kenya’s GCA Youth Focal Point to Lead National Youth Adaptation Efforts.
October 2025, Nairobi, Kenya.
We are pleased to announce that Kijani Resilience has been chosen by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) as the main official Youth Focal Point for Kenya. We acknowledge and celebrate this as a crucial step in boosting youth leadership in climate adaptation across the country, a goal that we are committed to continuously achieving.
As part of this new role, Kijani Resilience will create a National Youth Adaptation Network. This network will connect young people, organizations, and communities that are finding solutions to various climate issues through adaptation work. Kijani Resilience aims to inspire youth to take meaningful action for a more resilient and sustainable future and, through this initiative, equip them with skills and knowledge resources to do so.
In October this year, Kijani Resilience organized the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day 2025. This was Kenya’s first national gathering under the global #Youth4Adaptation campaign. The event brought together youth leaders, experts, and policymakers to discuss “NDCs, Youth, and Adaptation.” The focus was on the role of young people in achieving Kenya’s climate goals and building community resilience.
Akinyi Chemutai and Shirleen Omina are at the frontline, leading this partnership with GCA. They are the official Youth Focal Points for Kenya and have both completed the GCA Youth Focal Point training. Akinyi and Shirleen will lead upcoming programs on peer learning and skill building; this way, the skills and knowledge from their training will be passed on to the young changemakers around Kenya by the capable young leaders, thereby strengthening their power.
“ Kenya’s climate ambitions under the NDCs and NAPs will only be as strong as the voices shaping them. Youth consultation ensures our national plans reflect the innovation, energy, and realities of young Kenyans on the frontlines of climate change, ” commented Akinyi Chemutai, Co-Founder at Kijani Resilience.
“ Being selected as an In-Country Focal Point for this initiative is both an honor and a responsibility. At Kijani Resilience, we’ve seen first-hand how youth-led innovation can transform communities, and this affirms our work, ” reflected Shirleen Omina.
Through the continued partnership with GCA and other stakeholders, Kijani Resilience will continue to connect people to nature, raise awareness on climate action, while also building resilience and inspiring action by youth for a sustainable and adaptive future.
