GLFx Nairobi successfully donated 250 indigenous tree species to the Kenya Forest Club (KFC) to help them to set up a 20,000-tree seedling nursery at Oloolua Primary School in Ngong, Kajiado County. The tree species donated were Nandi flame, Newtonian, Vytex/Meru oak, Markhamia, and Prunus – 50 of each species.
KFC is an organization focused on promoting environmental conservation through various initiatives such as establishing a 20,000 seedling nursery at Oloolua Township Primary School, setting up a green library to teach about Forestry, and developing a forestry curriculum. It was established as one of the initiatives to contribute to the achievement of the Kenyan government’s 15 billion tree-planting goal.
The donated seedlings were later planted during a tree planting campaign that resulted in the distribution and planting of 10,000 tree seedlings between April 19 and April 28, 2023 in Kajiado.
